Maoist Center decides to pursue unification with Chand-led CPN

KATHMANDU: The CPN (Maoist Center) has agreed to pursue party unification with the Netra Bikram Chand-led Communist Party of Nepal (CPN).

A meeting of the party’s Standing Committee, which concluded on Monday, took the decision, according to party Spokesperson and Vice Chairperson Agni Prasad Sapkota. “Discussions are also ongoing with the CPN (Unified Socialist) regarding potential unification,” Sapkota said.

He also announced that the party would resume its campaign focused on the Mid-Hill Highway starting from August 31. “The campaign, which had come to a halt after reaching Pokhara, will conclude in Taplejung,” Sapkota said.

The party has also decided to convene a meeting of its Central Committee between the Dashain and Tihar festivals (second week of October).

Sapkota added that the meeting decided to take disciplinary action against leaders and cadres involved in factionalism, self-interest groups, or activities that violate party discipline. “To monitor internal divisions, the party has decided to form monitoring committees down to lower organizational levels,” he added.

Sapkota also said Deputy General Secretary Janardan Sharma has agreed to have his concerns thoroughly discussed within the party and has consented to endorse the meeting’s decisions.
