KATHMANDU:  The main opposition CPN (Maoist Center) has decided to continue its obstruction of parliamentary proceedings.

A meeting of the Maoist Center’s parliamentary party held on Friday concluded that UML Secretary Yogesh Bhattarai’s statement in the House of Representatives insulted the ‘people’s war,’ the peace agreement, and the constitution.

Speaking at the meeting of the House of Representatives on August 28, Bhattarai used the term ‘violence’ while referring to the 10-year Maoist insurgency. After Maoist Center lawmakers objected to Bhattarai’s statement, the Speaker directed an investigation into it. However, on Wednesday, Speaker Devraj Ghimire ruled that the term ‘violence’ was not unparliamentary. Maoist Center lawmakers strongly protested against Speaker Ghimire, ultimately leading to the session being adjourned until Sunday.

Maoist Center Chief Whip Hitraj Pandey said after the meeting that since the ‘people’s war’ has been insulted, the party will continue its obstruction until it is corrected.
