KATHMANDU: Member of House of Representatives Manju Khand, who went out of contact following the arrest of her husband Balkrishna Khand on Wednesday, has been traced in Australia. A source at the Nepali Embassy in Australia confirmed that Manju has reached Sydney.
Manju reached Australia via New Delhi, India. “Ram Ghimire, who has been living in Sydney for a long time reached Sydney airport to receive Manju,” the source added
Manju’s brother and son are living in Australia. Manju is said to be with them.
An unidentified man can be heard saying in a leaked audio clip that he had given Manju Rs 65 million at her home in Hanumansthan. Although an arrest warrant has yet to be issued for Manju, police earlier said they were keeping Manju under watch after some people arrested for investigation into the case gave statements against her.
Police have arrested 12 individuals, including a sitting government secrtary for an investigation into a racket that defrauded tens of millions of rupees out of hundreds of people promising to resettle in the US as Bhutanese refugees.
