Manipal tense as doctor is manhandled following patient’s demise Manipal Hospital was tense on Monday night after some individuals manhandled doctors accusing them of negligence.

POKHARA: The situation at Manipal Hospital in Pokhara has turned tense after relatives of a 57-year-old patient, who passed away while undergoing treatment, manhandled a doctor attending to her on Monday.

Sukamaya Dura, a resident of Sundarbazar-7 in Lamjung, passed away on Monday afternoon while receiving treatment at Manipal Hospital. Following her demise, enraged relatives of Dura manhandled Dr. Anil Shah accusing him of negligence.

Dura, who was suffering from kidney-related issues, had been admitted to the hospital’s emergency department on Sunday. She was subsequently transferred to the intensive care unit (ICU) on Monday.

Police have arrested Binaya Gurung, a resident of Malepatan in Pokhara-5, for physically assaulting Dr. Shah. “The situation remained tense until late Monday evening. Police are trying to take the situation under control,” said DSP Shrawan Kumar BK, the spokesperson for the District Police Office, Kaski.

In response to the incident, doctors at Manipal Hospital have announced the suspension of all hospital services until those responsible for the assault on Dr. Shah are charged with criminal offenses.

Efforts are currently underway to facilitate discussions between the hospital management, medical staff, and the deceased’s relatives, according to police.
