Madhesh unveils Rs 46.33 billion budget for 2025/26

KATHMANDU: The Madhesh Province Government has proposed to spend Rs 46.33 billion in the upcoming fiscal year 2025/26.

Minister for Economic Affairs and Planning, Sunil Kumar Yadav, presented the budget during the Madhesh Provincial Assembly meeting on Sunday.

The new budget has allocated Rs 16.72 billion (35.89%) for recurrent expenditure and Rs 30.26 billion (64.11%) for capital expenditure.

The budget statement mentions that revenue sources will include Rs 9.50 billion from internal revenue and Rs 12.63 billion from different grants of the federal government – Rs 7.72 billion from fiscal equalization grants, Rs 4.26 billion from conditional grants, Rs 394.5 million from special grants and Rs 358.2 million from supplementary grants.

Additionally, Rs 12.34 billion will come from federal revenue sharing, Rs 10.38 billion from last year’s cash balance and the shortfall will be met through Rs billion internal borrowing, according to Minister Yadav.

The provincial government has allocated Rs 15.88 billion for the Ministry of Physical Infrastructure Development, Rs 6.45 billion for the Ministry of Health and Population, Rs 4.41 billion for the Ministry of Energy, Irrigation and Water Supply, Rs 3.57 billion for the Ministry of Education and Culture, Rs 3.08 billion for the Ministry of Industry, Commerce, and Tourism, Rs 2.83 billion each for the Ministry of Agriculture and the Ministry of Forest and Environment, Rs 1.68 billion for the Ministry of Sports and Social Welfare, Rs 648.9 million for the Ministry of Home, Communication and Law, and Rs 571.4 million for the Ministry of Labor and Transport.

The budget includes several ambitious plans, such as operating the Madhesh Space and Communication Center and constructing a podway connecting the headquarters of all eight districts in the province.

Through the budget, the provincial government has announced programs including the Visit Madhesh campaign, Madhesh Investment Summit, Diaspora Summit, Travel and Tour Summit, promotion of Janakpur in Ayodhya and Madhesh Startup Program.

The provincial government also aims to conduct a feasibility study for setting up a chemical fertilizer plant and provide vocational skill training for 10,000 people, among others.
