KATHMANDU: Nepali Congress (NC) has agreed to join the Madhesh Pradesh government after Chief Minister Chief Minister Satish Kumar Singh consented to give finance portfolio to the party.
NC province assembly member from Rautahat, Sunil Kumar Yadav, will be appointed as Minister for Economic Affairs later on Thursday. Likewise, NC is sending Shesh Narayan Yadav from Dhanusha, Janardan Singh Chhetri from Parsa and Kaushal Raya from Sarlahi to Madhesh Province Government. Yadav will become Minister for Energy, Water Supply and Irrigation, Chhetri will be appointed as Minister for Agriculture and Raya as Minister for Labor.
Chief Minister Singh, who is from Janamat Party, agreed to give the finance portfolio to the NC after the latter threatened to withdraw its support from the Madhesh Province Government.
The party had earlier maintained that since it is leading the government it won’t give finance portfolio to other parties.
Singh was appointed Chief Minister with the support of CPN-UML, NC and Loktantrik Samajbadi Party among others.
