KATHMANDU: Police have arrested Aniruddha Kumar Singh, a member of the Madhesh Province Assembly, in connection to a murder case dating back to 2007.

Saptari District Court convicted Singh in 2014 for involvement in the murder of then CPN (Moist) leader Govinda Chaudhary. A single bench of District Judge Durga Prasad Dhugel had awarded the accused, including Yadav, a jail term of four years.

Singh challenged the district court’s decision in the Janakpur High Court. However, the high court upheld the district court’s verdict in 2018. He then challenged the high court’s verdict in the Supreme Court. However, the Supreme Court upheld the high court’s verdict in 2021.

Police arrested Singh from Rajbiraj on Monday. He was elected to the Madhesh Province Assembly from Saptari-4(B) seat as an independent candidate.
