KATHMANDU: Madhesh Province Chief Minister Satish Kumar Singh has announced his resignation.

Singh, who was scheduled to take a floor test in the Madhesh Province Assembly on Tuesday, announced his resignation during his address in the special of the province convened for a vote of confidence.

Tikram Upreti, the personal secretary of the Province Chief Sumitra Subedi Bhandari, confirmed that Chief Minister Singh has resigned. “The Province Chief has already approved his resignation,” he added.

The Janamat Party leader fell into a minority after coalition partners CPN-UML and Nepali Congress (NC) withdrew their support. His party also withdrew support.

Before announcing his resignation, Singh accused his party’s leadership of betrayal and lack of internal democracy. He criticized both the party’s central leadership and the provincial parliamentary leader for making unilateral decisions without consultation.

“The party withdrew its support from the government and recalled me from the cabinet without providing me an opportunity to put forth my views,” Singh said.

Janamat Party, led by CK Rau,t has already joined a new coalition with NC and UML to form a new government under Krishna Prasad Yadav of NC. Yadav has already staked his claim to form a new government.

Meanwhile, the Janamat Party has formally split as the Election Commission registered the Janaswaraj Party, formed by 20% of the central committee members of the party.
