Madhesh: Chief Minister Yadav assigns ministries to his cabinet members

JANAKPURDHAM: Fifteen days after his appointment, Madhesh Chief Minister Saroj Kumar Yadav has allocated responsibilities to members of his cabinet.

Yadav, who was appointed on the evening of November 9 as per Article 168(3) of the Constitution of Nepal as the leader of the largest party in the province assembly, the CPN-UML, took his oath the next morning at Panas Hotel in Bardibas. Shortly after his swearing in, he appointed three ministers without portfolios.

Chief Minister Yadav has assigned the responsibility of the Ministry of Energy, Irrigation and Water Supply to his party colleague Laxman Das. Similarly, Bimala Ansari of Sanghiya Samajbadi Party has been given the responsibility of the Ministry of Home, Communications and Law, while Kanchan Biccha of the Rastriya Prajatantra Party has been assigned the Forest and Environment portfolio.

Yadav’s appointment as the Chief Minister has been under dispute. The Supreme Court on November 18 issued an interim order, instructing Yadav not to take any policy decisions or actions with long-term impacts.
