KATHMANDU: The Federal Democratic Front of seven Madhesh-based parties has demanded that the government allocate the budget based on population and the Human Development Index.
The Front made the demand, following a meeting at the office of the Loktantrik Samajwadi Party (LSP) Nepal in Babarmahal on Thursday.
According to Ram Kumar Sharma, the general secretary of the Janata Samajabadi Party (JSP) Nepal, the meeting decided to urge the government to allocate the budget justly across all regions, including Tarai-Madhesh. Additionally, the front demanded the unconditional release of prisoners detained on false charges during movements such as the Madhesh Movement and the Kirat Limbuwan Movement.
The meeting also decided to prepare the Front’s common stance on the Land-related Bill presented in Parliament. Likewise, it also directed the Front secretariat to promptly prepare a concept paper on constitutional amendments.
The seven-member secretariat consists of one representative each from the seven parties under the Front.
JSP Nepal’s Sharma, from JSP Nepal, Janata Pragatishil Party Vice Chairperson Shivji Yadav, Rashtriya Mukti Party Nepal General Secretary Keshav Jha, Janamat Party Vice Chairperson Abdul Khan, Tarai Madhesh Loktantrik Party’s Brajkishor Singh, and LSP Nepal Secretary Gyanendra Jha.
Nagarik Unmukti Party is yet to name its representatives for the Secretariat.
The meeting, chaired by LSP Nepal Chairperson Mahantha Thakur, saw participation of JSP Nepal Chairperson Upendra Yadav, Janamat Party Chairperson CK Raut, Janata Pragatishil Party Chairperson Hridayesh Tripathi, and Tarai Madhesh Loktantrik Party Chairperson Brishesh Chandra Lal.
