KATHMANDU: CPN (Unified Socialist) has unanimously elected party Chairman Madhav Kumar Nepal as its parliamentary party leader.
The meeting of lawmakers of the party held at the party headquarters in Tinkune on Monday elected Nepal to the post. The party won 10 seats under the first past the post voting in the November 20 election. It, however, failed to cross the 3% threshold to gain national party status in the House of Representatives.
Party leader Rajendra Pandey had proposed Nepal’s name for the post.
Similarly, the meeting selected Pandey as deputy leader and Prakash Jwala as the whip, according to party general secretary Beduram Bhusal.
Bhusal added that the parliamentary party has decided to support the party secretariat committee’s decision to hold talks with coalition partners to form the next government.
