
KATHMANDU: Machhindra Football Club clinched the title of the KP Oli Cup for the third consecutive time, defeating Tribhuvan Army Club (TAC) 2-0 in the final at the Dasharath Stadium in Kathmandu on Monday.
An own goal by Bimal Pandey and a beautiful strike by Stephen Jamah Jale gave Machhindra victory in the final watched by a capacity crowd which included FIFA World Cup winner Gianluigi Buffon.
Pandey directed a cross by Sanish Shrestha into his own net in the 21st minute. The defending champions doubled the lead in the 72nd minute when Stefan Jamaha connected with Malik Yusuf Bamidele’s pass and scored past Tribhuvan Army keeper Bikesh Kuthu.
Machhindra reached the final by thrashing KP Oli FC 4-0, while Tribhuvan Army defeated Sankata Club 2-1 in the other semifinal.
Machhindra received a trophy and a check for Rs 1.51 million, while Tribhuvan Army was awarded Rs 500,000.
