Lumbini Province: Seven ministers sworn in

KATHMANDU: Seven ministers have been inducted into the cabinet of Lumbini Province Chief Minister Lila Giri.

Province Chief Amik Sherchan administered the oath of office and secrecy to the ministers amid a function on Sunday.

With this, Giri’s cabinet has finally taken its full shape, approximately a month after he was sworn in as the Chief Minister. The cabinet includes five members from the CPN-UML, three from the CPN (Maoist Center), and one each from two fringe parties.

Jokh Bahadur Mahara, the parliamentary party leader of the Maoist Center, has been appointed as the Minister for Economic Affairs, while Indrajit Tharu has been named the Minister for Physical Infrastructure Development.

From the CPN-UML, Bishnu Panthi has been appointed the Minister for Health, Durga Prasad Chaudhary as the Minister for Forest and Environment, and Tulsiram Sharma as the Minister for Land Reforms and Management.

The Nagarik Unmukti Party, Janata Samajbadi Party, and Loktantrik Samajbadi Party, which gave a vote of confidence to Chief Minister Giri, have not joined the government.

Chandrakesh Gupta of the Janamat Party has been named the Minister for Social Development, while Janaki Prasad Yadav of the Rastriya Prajatantra Party has joined the government as the Minister for Tourism and Transport Management.

Chet Narayan Acharya of the CPN-UML and Krishna KC of the Maoist Center, who were sworn in along with Chief Minister Giri, have been given portfolios of water supply, rural and urban development, and internal affairs, law, and communication. However, KC was not present at the swearing-in ceremony, and sources say he is dissatisfied with the distribution of portfolios.
