KATHMANDU: Lumbini All Stars has lifted the title of the inaugural Nepal T20 League.
In the final played at TU International Cricket Ground on Wednesday Lumbini All Stars defeated Biratnagar Super Kings by 24 runs.
Batting first after winning the toss, Lumbini scored 133 runs losing all wickets in 19.2 overs. Chasing a modest target, Biratnagar scored 109 with the loss of eight wickets in the designated 20 overs.
Lumbini received a cash prize of Rs 5.5 million, while Biratnagar took home Rs 3 million. Janakpur Royals and Kathmandu Knights, which reached Qualifiers and Eliminators, respectively, received Rs 1 million and Rs 500,000.
Both sides struggle with the bat in the final. Biratnagar’s batting collapsed while chasing a modest target. Arjun Saud top-scored for the side hitting 34 runs. Fellow opener Gaur Anshu Sharma could score only four runs, while Rohit Poudel went out on duck. Prithu Baskota gave some respectability to the total scoring 31 runs.
Harmit Singh and Sagar Dhakal took two wickets each for Lumbini. Bipul Sharma and Kishor Mahato took one wicket each.
Earlier, Lumbini failed to capitalize on the solid foundation set by openers Harmit Singh and Lahiru Milantha. The duo added 64 runs for the first wicket. While Singh scored 30 runs from 18 balls, Lahiru scored a 28-ball 41. Captain Dipendra Singh Airee and Ihan Pandey scored 20 and 18 runs, respectively.
Six teams participated in the franchise T20 league.
