KATHMANDU: Madhesh Province Assembly member from the Loktantrik Samajbadi Party (LSP), Abhiram Sharma, has been suspended.
Speaker Ram Chandra Mandal suspended Sharma, who received a life sentence from the Mahottari District Court in December last year, on Friday, according to the Madhesh Province Assembly Secretariat.
The district court, on December 14 last year, convicted Sharma and six others for the murder of ASI Thaman BK of the Armed Police Force during the Madhesh movement eight years ago. UML lawmaker Laxman Prasad Koiri, however, was acquitted.
Sharma is the parliamentary party leader of the Loktantrik Samajbadi Party in the province assembly.
On September 11, 2015, Sharma and his supporters allegedly dragged the injured Assistant Sub-Inspector Thaman BK from an ambulance and killed him. Initially, Koiri, Sharma and 26 others were charged with murder. Many accused are still on the run.
