KATHMANDU: Consul General of India in Bigunj, Nitesh Kumar, and President of Nepal-India Women Friendship Society (NIFWS) and Member of the House of Representatives, Chanda Chaudhary, joined handed over LPG gas, stoves, cylinders, and other accessories to 275 underprivileged families in Tirhut Rural Municipality of Saptari district on Saturday.
The event was attended by Bijay Yadav, chairperson of Tirhut Rural Municipality, Narendra Karki, Superintendent of Police of Saptari, Radha Kayasth, Vice-President of Nepal-India Women Friendship Society, local journalists, and other stakeholders, according to a statement issued by the Indian consul office in Birgunj.
The beneficiary families were identified through the Socio-Economic Caste Census (SECC) list in coordination with the District Administration Office (DAO) and local units.
A total of 3,000 sets of LPG stoves, cylinders, and other accessories, such as regulators and pipes, were gifted by the Indian government to underprivileged families in Sarlahi, Rautahat, and Saptari. Earlier in April, approximately 500 sets were distributed in Kaudena Municipality of Sarlahi.
Speaking on the occasion, Consul General Kumar said the distribution of LPG gas stoves and cylinders demonstrates India’s ongoing support to Nepal. Similarly, lawmaker Chaudhary said that the distribution of LPG gas stoves, cylinders, and accessories will replace the use of traditional cooking fuels, such as firewood, coal, and cow-dung cakes, that pose health hazards.
