KATHMANDU: The House of Representatives has unanimously passed the Electronic Commerce (E-commerce) Bill, 2024.
The Bill was passed unanimously on Tuesday after Minister for Industry, Commerce and Supplies, Damodar Bhandari answered questions raised by lawmakers.
“The Bill was introduced to regulate and systematize online transactions, as e-commerce for goods and services is rapidly growing in Nepal,” Bhandari said.
He said immediate legislation was necessary for the regulation and monitoring of e-commerce as it has become essential for job creation, efficient supply of goods and services and export promotion. “This law can be amended later to keep pace with technological developments,” he added.
Bhandari also said that the legislation was necessary for supporting the economy, promoting domestic production, developing small and medium enterprises, and improving consumer access to goods and services.
