KATHMANDU: Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) Chairman Rajendra Prasad Lingden has advocated for the scrapping of both the National Assembly and the provincial structure.
Talking to reporters at the RPP headquarters on Thursday, Lingden argued that a small country like Nepal cannot afford to pay salaries and wages for representatives ranging from ward members to the President. “We need to reduce the number of representatives to streamline governance and cut expenses,” he said. “The provincial structure is unnecessary and should be eliminated, along with the National Assembly which is of now significance.”
Highlighting monarchy, Hindu nation, and Nepal Army as the three pillars of the country, he expressed concern over attacks on the Nepal Army after abolishing of monarchy and the Hindu state. “Efforts to weaken the army are against the national interest. The focus instead should be on strengthening the army by providing modern weapons,” he added.
Commenting on the 100 kg gold smuggling case, Lingden warned that his party would obstruct the House session if a high-level inquiry committee is not formed to investigate the matter within 15 days.
