Lingden dismisses rumors of electoral alliance in Jhapa

KATHMANDU: Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) President Rajendra Lingden has rejected rumors that his party has formed an electoral alliance with the CPN-UML in two constituencies in Jhapa.

In a social media post on Sunday, Lingden said the RPP is contesting the upcoming elections independently across the country and has not entered into any seat-sharing agreement with the UML.

“In a planned manner, a small group is spreading false propaganda that the RPP has formed an alliance with the UML in Jhapa-3 and Jhapa-5 seats,” Lingden said. “I respectfully urge everyone to stop this misinformation. It is a violation of the election code of conduct and cyber laws.”

In the last two elections, the RPP had coordinated with the UML in limited constituencies. During the previous polls, Lingden and UML chair KP Sharma Oli had an understanding to exchange support in their respective constituencies, Jhapa-3 and Jhapa-5.

This time, however, both parties are contesting separately. Despite this, speculation has circulated that Lingden has again struck a deal with the UML.

Lingden strongly denied the claims and warned that he would take legal action against those spreading rumors. He said he was preparing to file complaints with the Election Commission and the police.

The RPP has fielded candidates in all constituencies under the first-past-the-post system nationwide.
