Limpiyadhura, Lipulek and Kalapani integral parts of Nepali territory: MoFA

KATHMANDU: The government has reiterated that Limpiyadhura, Lipulek and Kalapani areas are integral parts of its territory.

Responding to the recent agreement between China and India to resume bilateral trade through Lipulek Pass, the spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said Nepal’s position is clear, as its official map, which is already incorporated into the Constitution, includes the areas east of the Mahakali River as part of Nepal.

The spokesperson also recalled that it has consistently urged India not to undertake activities such as road construction, expansion or cross-border trade in the disputed region. “Nepal has already conveyed to its friendly neighbor China that the area falls within Nepali territory,” the spokesperson’s response posted on the ministry’s website states.

Highlighting close and friendly ties with India, the ministry said that Nepal remains committed to resolving the boundary dispute through diplomatic means, guided by historical treaties, maps, facts and evidence.

India and China’s agreement to resume trade through Lipulek Pass has put pressure on Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli who is preparing to visit both India and China later this month.

It was during Oli’s previous tenure that Nepal included the disputed territory in its official map and amended the constitution to include the new map.
