KATHMANDU: Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) General Secretary Mukul Dhakal has claimed that he was not allowed to present his proposal at the party’s central committee meeting held on Wednesday.

The party’s Secretariat meeting held on Tuesday had decided that Dhakal would be allowed to present his proposal.

Dhakal attended the meeting on Wednesday with black tape over his mouth after the party rejected his request to livestream the meeting proceedings. According to RSP leaders, Dhakal was denied the opportunity to present his proposal due to his ‘activities’ during the meeting.

Earlier, the RSP had sought clarification from Dhakal for disclosing the findings of his study report to the media before presenting it to the party.

Dhakal’s report, prepared after meeting party leaders and cadres from 38 districts, paints a grim picture of the party’s future. “Let’s rekindle the lamp of hope. Let’s make the RSP truly a national party in the next 100 days, not just Rabi’s party,” referring to RSP President Rabi Lamichhane. “Let’s continue with Lamichhane as the president but transform the party into a national entity, not just Rabi’s party,” the report states.

In his report, Dhakal has raised several critical questions: What is the RSP? Why was it formed? What should be the relationship between the party and the government? How should the central committee and the parliamentary party interact? What is the party’s decision-making process? Who makes decisions at which level?

Protesting talks about his personal life at the party, Dhakal also asked the central committee to make decisions about his personal life, including whether he should marry or remain single.
