Lekhak denies involvement in visit visa scam, calls for justice

KATHMANDU: Minister for Home Affairs Ramesh Lekhak has reiterated that he is not involved in the visit visa scandal.

Speaking at a press conference in Kathmandu on Wednesday, Lekhak claimed that a conspiracy has been hatched against him based on political prejudice. “I am aware of the attempts to implicate me in the visit visa issue. I am not involved in any part of this process,” Lekhak said.

Lekhak organized the press meet after the opposition denied him the opportunity to defend allegations against him in the House of Representatives.

He added that there is no precedent of a minister resigning merely because the Commission for the Investigation of Authority (CIAA) is investigating ministry staff. “In the last three fiscal years, 64,061 complaints have been registered with the CIAA. All these complaints are against civil servants or public office holders under some ministry, department, or office. Investigations are conducted, and the CIAA files cases,” he said. “You can judge for yourselves how many ministers have resigned so far just because employees under them were being investigated.”

He added that a planned attack has been launched against him. “I have experienced that a deliberate attack targeting me has been carried out. This attack is driven by political prejudice, and I feel it is still ongoing,” he added.

Lekhak also expressed grievances of being unjustly targeted. “I have no intention of disrespecting anyone. I have no need to hold biases or prejudices. Don’t I deserve justice as well?” Lekhak said. “Is there any complaint against me? Is there any investigation ongoing against me?”
