KATHMANDU: World Cup-winning Brazilian footballer Roberto Carlos has arrived in Nepal for the third season of the Nepal Super League (NSL).
Carlos landed at Tribhuvan International Airport on Tuesday morning, where he was welcomed by officials of Nepal Sports and Event Management (NSEM), the organizer of NSL.
The legendary defender will attend Wednesday’s second qualifier match between Dhangadhi FC and Pokhara Thunders at the Dasharath Stadium.
Carlos is the second high-profile international footballer to arrive in Nepal in the past two months. In March, legendary Italian goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon arrived in Nepal to attend the final of the KP Oli Cup football tournament.
Widely regarded as one of the greatest defenders in football history, the 51-year-old Carlos represented Brazil from 1992 to 2006 and was part of their 2002 FIFA World Cup-winning squad. He scored 10 goals in 125 appearances for the national team.
During his illustrious football career, Carlos spent most of his time with Spanish giants Real Madrid, while also playing for Inter Milan, Fenerbahçe, and other top clubs. He last played professional football in the Indian Super League, playing for Delhi Dynamos, which has now been rebranded as Odisha FC, in 2016.
