Legendary cricketer Brian Lara in town

KATHMANDU: West Indies cricket legend Brian Lara landed in Kathmandu on Friday for his first-ever visit to the Himalayan nation.

Acknowledged as one of the greatest batters of all time, Lara landed at the Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA) in Kathmandu on Friday morning. He was accorded a warm welcome by officials from the Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN).

Lara’s visit is part of an official invitation from CAN to watch matches of the Nepal Premier League (NPL). CAN sources say the cricket icon will interact with players during his stay and offer insights and mentorship to emerging talents.

Known for his extraordinary batting prowess and world records, Lara’s presence is generating considerable excitement in Nepal’s cricket circles. His visit is seen as an opportunity for local players to learn from one of the most celebrated batsmen in cricket history.

The Trinidadian holds several cricketing records. He holds the highest individual score in first-class cricket, with 501 not out for Warwickshire against Durham at Edgbaston in 1994. Similarly, he set the record for the highest individual score in an international Test innings when he scored 400 not out during the 4th test against England in 2004.
