Left unity not possible now, Pokharel

KATHMANDU: CPN-UML General Secretary Shankar Pokhrel has said that left unity is no longer possible.

Speaking at a press conference in Dang on Tuesday, Pokharel said left parties can no longer move on the same old path of ‘left unity’. “Since small political parties are getting powerful positions through unnecessary bargaining thereby creating political stability in the country, those following communist ideologies should polarize towards UML, while those favoring capitalist socialism should align with Nepali Congress,” Pokharel said.

Stating that it is natural for people to raise questions as the two largest parties in the House of Representatives have joined hands to form a government, Pokharel reminded that the two parties have always come together on issues concerning the country’s democratic values.

Pokharel also said that political alliances were broken on multiple occasions in the past just because UML denied accepting the leader of a party with just 10 seats as the prime minister.
