KATHMANDU: Foreign Secretary Sewa Lamsal and Indian Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri held an official discussion in Kathmandu on Monday.
According to Amrit Bahadur Rai, the spokesperson for the foreign ministry, the discussions focused on revitalizing past agreements between the two countries and enhancing various programs being implemented with Indian assistance.
Rai said that the meeting reviewed all aspects of Nepal-India relations and held discussions on ways to move forward in the future. He also mentioned that talks were held on restarting meetings of various mechanisms established between the two nations and continuing projects supported by Indian aid.
“In a way, the meeting was a comprehensive review of Nepal-India relations. However, it was not a structured mechanism meeting. It was the introductory visit of the Indian Foreign Secretary,” Rai added.
Rai clarified that no new agreements or understandings were reached during the meeting. “Various projects are being run with Indian assistance. The discussion focused on the need to resume meetings of different mechanisms between the two countries and plan for the future,” he added. “The focus was on making the various bilateral mechanisms more active in the coming days.”
Misri, who arrived on a two-day official visit of Nepal on Sunday, held courtesy meetings with President Ram Chandra Paudel, Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal, Foreign Minister Dr Arzu Rana Deuba, deputy prime ministers and leaders of different political parties, among others.
