POKHARA: The Kaski District Court has extended the remand for Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) President and former Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Home Affairs, Rabi Lamichhane, by another 10 days.
“The district court has permitted police to keep Lamichhane in custody for investigation for 10 days with effect from October 31,” Suraj Adhikari, the information officer for the Kaski District Court, told Himal Press.
This is the third remand extension for Lamichhane. The district court initially granted a six-day remand, which was later extended by seven days.
Earlier, the District Government Attorney’s Office, Kaski, sought an additional 30-day remand, arguing that Lamichhane also needs to be investigated on money laundering charges.
Lamichhane was arrested in Kathmandu on October 18 and brought to Pokhara for an investigation into his alleged role in the misappropriation of deposits from Suryadarshan Saving and Credit Cooperatives. He has denied any role in channeling funds from the cooperatives to Gorkha Media Network. Lamichhane, however, has said that he would spend responsibility for funds spent by the media company when he was its managing director.
