KATHMANDU: It has been revealed that cricketer Sandeep Lamichhane was suspended for the final two matches of the series against the West Indies.
The star spinner’s absence in Nepal’s first-ever bilateral series against a full member had caused widespread concern and fueled speculation. However, the Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN) has said that Lamichhane was suspended.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, CAN Secretary Paras Khadka said Lamichhane informed the team about 45 minutes before the opening match of the three-match T20I series that he would not play. His last-minute decision, the statement noted, had a serious impact on the team management, the players, and Nepali cricket as a whole.
Based on the management’s recommendation, CAN said Lamichhane was suspended for the remaining matches and the entire series.
