Lamichhane to be presented before court on Sunday

KATHMANDU: Police are presenting Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) President and former Deputy Prime Minister Rabi Lamichhane for a bail hearing on Sunday.

Lamichhane was transported to Pokhara from Kathmandu on Friday night after police obtained an arrest warrant from Kaski District Court for an investigation into his alleged involvement in cooperative fraud.

Since Saturday was a public holiday, police will present him before the court on Sunday.

Meanwhile, security has been tightened in Pokhara as RSP leaders and cadres have descended on the lake city to protest Lamichhane’s arrest. They demonstrated in different parts of Pokhara on Saturday.

Lamichhane has been accused of misappropriating savings deposited in the Pokhara-based Suryadarshan Saving and Credit Cooperative. The RSP President has denied involvement in transferring funds from the cooperative to Gorkha Media Network but has accepted responsibility for the funds spent while he was serving as the managing director of the media company.
