KATHMANDU: Police are presenting Rabi Lamichhane, president of the Rastriay Swatantra Party (RSP) and former Deputy Prime Minister and Home Minister, in court on Sunday for remand extension.
The 13-day remand granted earlier by the Kaski District Court expired on Friday. Lamichhane has been in the custody of Kaski police since October 19 for an investigation into the alleged misappropriation of deposits from Suryadarshan Cooperatives, Pokhara. While in the custody of Kaski police, he was taken to Rupandehi for three days to record a statement for alleged misappropriation of deposits from Supreme Cooperative.
The district courts in Kathmandu and Chitwan have also issued arrest warrants for Lamichhane for investigation of similar charges. Police are planning to transfer him to these districts to record statements.
Former DIG of Nepal Police Chhabilal Joshi, who is also in the custody of Kaski police for investigation into misappropriation of cooperative deposits, had already been brought to Kathmandu for questioning.
