KATHMANDU: Nepali star leg-spinner Sandeep Lamichhane has been signed by Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) side Rajshahi Warriors for the 2025/2026 season.
Rajshahi Warriors confirmed Lamichhane’s recruitment for the new season through a social media post on Sunday. “Welcome Himalayan Magic Sandeep Lamichhane, Nepal. You’re not just watching the game, you’re part of the fight. Follow Rajshahi Warriors and let’s chase glory together,” the franchise wrote on its social media page.
Lamichhane was among several Nepali players, including Dipendra Singh Airee, who had registered for the BPL draft. Although Lamichhane went unsold during the auction, Rajshahi Warriors later secured his services outside the draft.
This will be Lamichhane’s second stint in the BPL. He was previously signed by Sylhet Sixers for the 2019 season.
Lamichhane is one of the most widely travelled cricketers from Nepal. He has played for Delhi Capitals in the Indian Premier League, Melbourne Stars and Hobart Hurricanes in Australia’s Big Bash League, Jamaica Tallawahs, St Kitts and Nevis Patriots, and Barbados Tridents in the Caribbean Premier League, Montreal Tigers and Vancouver Knights in the Global T20 Canada, and Lahore Qalandars in the Pakistan Super League, among others.
He guided Biratnagar Kings to the playoffs of the 2025 Nepal Premier League and finished as the tournament’s highest wicket taker with 17 wickets, together with Abinash Bohora and Sher Malla.
The Rajshahi franchise has undergone several changes since the inception of the BPL. Duronto Rajshahi featured in the first two seasons before the franchise was suspended. It returned as Rajshahi Kings with new ownership and management in the 2016 edition, was later renamed Rajshahi Royals in 2019, and subsequently excluded from the league. The team re-entered the competition in 2024 as Durbar Rajshahi and was rebranded as Rajshahi Warriors earlier this year.
The 2026 BPL season will feature six teams: Rangpur Riders, Sylhet Titans, Rajshahi Warriors, Dhaka Capitals, Noakhali Express, and Chattogram Royals.
At Rajshahi Warriors, Lamichhane will be part of a strong overseas contingent that includes Binura Fernando and Dushan Hemantha of Sri Lanka, Hussain Talat, Jahandad Khan, Mohammad Nawaz, and Shabizada Farhan of Pakistan, and New Zealand all-rounder Jimmy Neesham.
