POKHARA: The Kaski District Court has granted police permission to keep Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) President and former Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Home Affairs, Rabi Lamichhane, in custody for an additional 13 days.
Lamichhane was presented before the district court for the fourth time on Sunday morning after the latest 10-day remand expired on Sunday. During the hearing, government attorneys had requested that the remand be extended by 25 days. However, a single bench of District Judge Navaraj Dahal granted a 13-day extension.
Police are investigating Lamichhane’s alleged involvement in the misappropriation of deposits from Suryadarshan Saving and Credit Cooperative. The RSP President has denied any involvement in the misuse of funds from the cooperative.
Lamichhane was arrested in Kathmandu on October 18 and brought to Pokhara on October 19. He was first presented before the district court on October 20, when police were granted an initial six-day remand.
