KATHMANDU: The parliamentary investigation committee formed to probe cooperative institutions has concluded that Rabi Lamichhane, president of the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP), was involved in the misappropriation of cooperative funds.
A committee member revealed that after three months of investigation into the misuse of savings in cooperative institutions, they have found proof of Lamichhane’s involvement in the scam. “We are submitting our report to the House of Representatives today. Our investigation has shown Lamichhane’s involvement in the misuse of people’s savings in cooperatives,” the member told Himal Press. “His involvement has been evident in the misappropriation of funds taken by Gorkhaa Media Network from the cooperative.”
The member added that the report highlights Lamichhane’s key role and responsibility in office operations, given his position as Managing Director and shareholder of Gorkha Media Network Pvt. Ltd which operated Galaxy 4K Television.
The House of Representatives formed the parliamentary special investigation committee on May 29 to investigate the misuse of cooperative funds. The tenure of the committee, which was initially three months, was later extended by 15 days.
The parliamentary committee had questioned Lamichhane for about 10 hours during its investigation.
