Lamichhane files appeal against Kathmandu District Court’s bail order Rabi Lamichhane

KATHMANDU: Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) President Rabi Lamichhane has filed an appeal at the Patan High Court challenging the order issued by the Kathmandu District Court in a case related to the embezzlement of savings at the Swarnalaxmi Cooperative.

The Kathmandu District Court on January 16 ordered Lamichhane’s release on a bail of Rs 6 million. The bench of District Judge Madhav Prasad Adhikari took the decision.

Dissatisfied with the decision, Lamichhane, who is also a former deputy prime minister and home minister, filed an appeal under Section 73 of the Criminal Procedure Code, requesting the high court to revoke the district court’s bail order and proceed with the case under Section 69 which allows for a regular hearing.

Addressing RSP supporters present on the high court premises, Lamichhane said that he would speak about the case soon and that his statement would silence many others. He also added that he was appearing in court to protect the government’s reputation.

Stating that the future of the country lies in the hands of the youth, he called for serious attention of the youth toward the current situation.

Lamichhane has already filed similar appeals against the orders of the district courts in Kaski and Rupandehi. He, however, is still to file an appeal against the decision taken by the Chitwan District Court which has released him on a bail of Rs 5.4 billion in a case related to embezzlement of funds from Sahara Cooperative.

Meanwhile, although an investigation has been initiated against him regarding the embezzlement of savings at the Parsa-based Sano Paila Cooperative, no formal case has been lodged so far.
