Lamichhane challenges Rs 6.5 million bail in Pokhara High Court

POKHARA: Former Home Minister and President of Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP), Rabi Lamichhane, has filed an appeal at the Pokhara High Court, claiming that the Kaski District Court’s order to release him on a bail of Rs 6.5 million is unjust and that he be released on general date.

Lamichhane filed the appeal nearly three weeks after the district court decided to release him on a bail of Rs 6.5 million.

Pokhara High Court’s Information Officer and Deputy Registrar Neel Paneru confirmed that Lamichhane had filed the appeal.

Dr Narayan Datta Kandel, Lamichhane’s legal representative, told Himal Press that they have filed the appeal, arguing that the district court’s order to deposit a bail of Rs 6.5 million is unjust. “We have requested that he be allowed to remain on a general date while the Suryadarshan Cooperative fraud case is heard,” he added.

Kandel argued that there is insufficient evidence to substantiate the claims against Lamichhane. He further contended that the district court’s decision to release Lamichhane on bail without examining the evidence he presented was unjust.

Lamichhane has also submitted bails of Rs 6 million at Kathmandu District Court and Rs 10 million at Rupandehi District Court where he has been charged with similar cooperative fraud cases.
