KATHMANDU: Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) President Rabi Lamichhane has filed a petition at the Supreme Court challenging the order of the Butwal bench of the High Court, Tulsipur, to remand him in judicial custody.

Lamichhane’s spouse, Nikita Poudel, filed the petition at the apex court on Friday.

He was arrested from his residence in Budhanilkantha, Kathmandu, on April 4, immediately after the High Court’s ruling. He is currently being held at Rupandehi District Prison.

Rupandehi District Court had earlier released Lamichhane on bail of Rs 10 million in connection with the embezzlement of funds from Supreme Cooperative.

The District Government Attorney’s Office, Rupandehi, challenged the district court’s decision at the high court. The high court then overturned the district court’s ruling and ordered Lamichhane’s detention until a final verdict is passed.
