Lamichhane alleges procedural abuse during legal proceedings against him Rabi Lamichhane

KATHMANDU: Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) President Rabi Lamichhane has alleged procedural abuse, psychological pressure, and human rights violations during legal proceedings against him.

Speaking at the Kaski District Court during a hearing on his remand extension on Sunday , Lamichhane detailed the events he claimed illustrate state bias in the case. “I was told I would be taken to Chitwan from Kathmandu at 10 am the next day, but I was hastily moved early in the morning,” Lamichhane said. “Upon arrival, I did not receive a medical checkup despite my health concerns.”

Lamichhane added that prolonged interrogation caused him severe discomfort.

According to Lamichhane, who is also a former deputy prime minister and home ministry, the state disregarded his repeated requests for rest, health checks, and an opportunity to contact his family, legal counsel or party representatives. “When I requested them to allow me to notify my family and lawyers or make a single call before transferring me to Pokhara, they refused,” he said. Lamichhane added that he was forcibly transported to Kaski under distressing conditions and that police personnel were inebriated.

Lamichhane also highlighted irregularities in the investigation process, including a lack of clarity about accusations and media leaks that he claimed vilified his family. He further accused the state of conspiring against him. “I am here to seek justice from the court, my last hope. Despite the pressure and injustice, I remain committed to transparency,” he said, urging the judiciary to evaluate the fairness of the process.
