KATHMANDU: Police have arrested a sitting government secretary for investigation into the Lalita Niwas land grab scam.
The Central Investigation Bureau (CIB) of Nepal Police arrested Krishna Bahadur Raut, Secretary at the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology, on Sunday.
According to a source at the CIB, Raut was apprehended at Tribhuvan International Airport while preparing to board a flight to Biratnagar.
Raut is accused of drafting a memo that favored the land sharks while serving as a section officer with the Ministry of Physical Planning and Works in 2010.
Raut was not among the 176 people who were charged by the Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA).
Earlier on Sunday, the CIB also arrested Lok Hari Ghimire, former head of Samarjang Company, and survey official Dhruba Prasad Aryal.
