KATHMANDU: Tension has gripped Lalbazaar in Belaka Municipality-4 as locals have taken to the streets to protest the death of a four-year-old girl who was hit by a tipper.
Anjila Rana Magar lost her life after being struck by a tipper on the Chatara Bridge-Beltar section of the Madan Bhandari Highway on Friday. The enraged crowd set two tippers and a water tanker belonging to Belaka Municipality on fire.
The locals attacked a fire engine from Chaudandigadhi Municipality while it was extinguishing the fire on the tipper. Udayapur District Police Office dispatched reserve forces from the district headquarters Gaighat after the locals assaulted a police team deployed by the Area Police Office in Beltar.
Meanwhile, the Area Police Office in Rampur has impounded the tipper with the registration number Province 2-03 Kha-4309, along with its driver, for further investigation.
