Kuleshwar School principal, staff accused of fraudulent salary withdrawals

KATHMANDU: A corruption case has been filed against Sanu Kanchha (SK) Nepal, the principal of Kuleshwar Secondary School of Kathmandu and three others at the Special Court, accusing them of illegally withdrawing salaries and benefits in the names of absent teachers.

The Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) lodged the case. According to the anti-graft body, Nepal allegedly prepared fake receipts and withdrew salaries in the name of a primary-level relief quota teacher. It has been found that he embezzled Rs 157,915 in salaries and allowances of six months.

During the investigation, it was revealed that salary and allowance were withdrawn in the name of Shruti Bhandari, whose real name is Ambika Ghimire, who was appointed in place of the absent teacher. The CIAA claims that Assistant Principal Shiva Hari Ghimire, Accountant Smriti Regmi and Substitute Teacher Ambika Ghimire were also involved in the irregularities.

Assistant Principal Ghimire is accused of colluding with the principal to appoint his relative, Ambika Ghimire, as a substitute teacher for the absent teacher. Similarly, accountant Smriti Regmi is accused of preparing fake documents and facilitating the withdrawal of salaries despite the teacher’s absence.

Ambika Ghimire, who taught as a substitute teacher, has also been charged under Section 22 of the Corruption Prevention Act, 20o9, for playing a role in the misconduct, and similar punishment has been demanded for her as for the principal and other accused.
