KATHMANDU: Police have taken Kantipur Media Group (KMG) Chairperson Kailash Sirohiya into control from the Group’s office in Thapathali, Kathmandu.
A team of the Kathmandu Valley Crime Investigation Office, led by SSP Sanu Ram Bhattarai, arrested Sirohiya on Tuesday evening.
The police made the arrest after the Dhanusha District Court issued an arrest warrant for Sirohiya earlier in the day. A complaint had been filed against Sirohiya at the District Police Office, Dhanusha, claiming that he possesses dual citizenship.
In a statement, Sirohiya had earlier alleged that Deputy Prime Minister and Home Minister Rabi Lamichhane, whose name was linked to a cooperative fraud case, had filed a complaint against him to stop news related to the cooperative fraud and divert attention from the main issue. He had also claimed that he did not commit any wrongdoing.
After the police team arrived to arrest Sirohiya, Senior Advocate Shambhu Thapa, Federation of Nepalese Journalists President Bipul Pokhrel, among others, reached the Kantipur Media Group’s office.
The police team will hand over Sirohiya to the District Police Office, Dhanusha, for necessary investigation.
