KATHMANDU: Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) has requested the home ministry’s support for the removal of squatters’ settlements from the banks of the Bagmati River in Thapathali.
Chief Administrative Officer of KMC Basanta Adhikari Thursday wrote a letter to the Ministry of Home Affairs, soliciting the ministry’s support to evict squatters from Bagmati River banks.
Last month, KMC had sent its team to remove settlements from the Bagmati River banks at the request of the Bagmati Heritage Integrated Development Project. But the local squatters protested the decision and even attacked the team members.
“Since it has not been possible to immediately proceed with the protection and beautification of the Bagmati River banks by removing structures built illegally, we request necessary support and coordination for the same,” the letter reads.
The KMC has also sent the letter to the Ministry of Federal Affairs and General Administration for necessary support and coordination.
