KATHMANDU: Kathmandu Metropolitan City has used bulldozers to clear a squatter settlement on the banks of the Manohara River in Kathmandu.
KMC officials said the operation carried out by a municipal police team on Friday was aimed at removing unplanned settlements.
Manoj Bhetwal, legal officer of the Manohara Land Integration Project, said bulldozers were used to raze illegal structures in a squatter settlement in Ward-32 of KMC.
“We published a notice in the Gorkhapatra daily on July 24, instructing all concerned to remove structures built on private land,” he said. “Since people ignored the order, we were left with no option but to clear them using bulldozers.”
According to Bhetwal, only structures built in the past three months were demolished.
