KATHMANDU: Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) is painting murals at different locations in Kathmandu city as part of its beautification project.
The KMC has already reached an agreement with the Nepal Academy of Fine Arts (NAFA) to create the murals.
According to Suraj Shakya, chief of the Building Construction Division of the KMC, NAFA has already been permitted to paint murals on the walls from Babarmahal to Maitighar, Exhibition Road, Tribhuvan International Airport, Minbhawan and Lainchour-based Social Welfare Council in the first phase. “The murals should be created by mid-June 2024, he added.
The KMC is providing Rs 5 million to the NAFA for the purpose.
Meanwhile, KMC has started displaying QR codes at different heritage sites so that visitors can get information about them easily. In the initial phase, the QR codes have been displayed at Nandikeshar Temple, Shankarkirti Mahabihar and Naxal Bhagawati Temple. After scanning the QR codes, visitors will get cultural, historical, and archeological information about the heritage sites on their smart devices.
Visitors will get audio information in 10 different languages – Nepali, English, German, Hindi, French, Chinese, Korean, Spanish, Japanese and Arabic.
