KATHMANDU: Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) has given a 10-day timeframe to pharmacies operating within the metropolis to comply with the standards.
Issuing a statement on Wednesday, the KMC’s Health Department asked pharmacies to stop unauthorized individuals from distributing medicines, selling medicines not registered with the Department of Drug Administration, stop selling medicines without a doctor’s prescription. It also directed drug stores to maintain records of narcotic drugs as required by the existing laws and organize their store as per the Good Pharmacy Practice (GPP). It also asked all pharmacies to register with the Health Department of the KMC within 10 days.
The department said in the statement that it could go to the extent of closing pharmacies as per Section 53 of KMC’s Public Health Act, 2023, that continue to flout standards after 10 days.
