KATHMANDU: Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) has fined the ruling CPN-UML Rs 100,000 for littering streets.

“You indiscriminately littered the streets and caused environmental pollution during your mass gathering in Durbarmarg, Kathmandu, on Friday. As per the Waste Management Act, 2011 and Kathmandu Metropolitan City’s Economic Act, 2024, you are hereby fined Rs 100,000,” KMC’s letter addressed to UML’s Central Party Office reads.

KMC Spokesperson Navin Manandhar said that UML was fined as a punitive action for littering during the mass gathering.

UML had organized the mass gathering on Darbarmarg on Friday afternoon, claiming to protest against anarchy. Prime Minister and UML Chairperson KP Sharma Oli, UML General Secretary Shankar Pokharel, and other leaders addressed the gathering.
