KATHMANDU: Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) has honored Nepal’s national women’s football team with a cash prize of Rs 2.5 million for finishing first runner-up in the 2024 SAFF Women’s Championship.
In the final played at Dasharath Stadium in Kathmandu on Wednesday, Nepal conceded a 1-2 defeat against defending champions Bangladesh. Nepal has played in the final of the SAFF Women’s Championship six times but has failed to lift the title.
KMC Mayor Balen Shah and Deputy Mayor Sunita Dangol handed over the check for Rs 2.5 million to national team captain Anjila Tumbapo Subba on Wednesday evening.
The metropolis earlier honored Paralympic silver medalist Palesha Govardhan with a cash prize of Rs 500,000. It also awarded national women’s volleyball players a cash prize of Rs 100,000 for winning silver in CAVA Nations League.
