KATHMANDU: Kathmandu Metropolitan City has designated 46 locations within the city for flower sales for the Tihar festival.
Mayor Balendra Shah (Balen) announced in a social media post that these locations have been specifically designated for the sale and distribution of locally grown flowers to promote local farmers. “We request traders not to sell or distribute plastic flowers and other decorative materials during the festival. If anyone is found selling them, they will be penalized according to prevailing laws. At the same time, we encourage all consumers to buy domestic flowers and support Nepali farmers,” Balen wrote on his Facebook page.
Last year, KMC has designated four locations – Bhrikuti Mandap, Tinkune, Bishnumati Corridor and Handigaun – for flower sales. “Learning from last year, we have designated more locations to facilitate farmers and consumers,” he added.
All outlets of Bhat-Bhateni, Salesberry and other departmental stores, malls like Civil Mall, City Center and NBTC, banquet halls and party venues, among others have been designation for flower sales.
