KATHMANDU: India’s Minister for Power, Manohar Lal Khattar, paid a courtesy call on Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli on Wednesday.
“The two leaders reaffirmed the close and friendly ties between Nepal and India, and discussed ways to enhance India-Nepal cooperation in the hydropower sector,” the Indian Embassy in Kathmandu wrote in a social media post.
Khattar arrived in Kathmandu on Tuesday at the invitation of his counterpart, Minister for Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation Deepak Khadka.
The two ministers co-chaired a bilateral meeting focusing on Nepal-India power sector cooperation on Tuesday.
In the presence of the two ministers, Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) and Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd on Tuesday signed a Memorandum of Understanding to form two joint venture companies in India and Nepal to implement the high-capacity 400 kV double-circuit transmission lines — Inaruwa–New Purnea and Dododhara-Bareilly.
Khatta, together with Minister Khadka, also visited the 900 MW Arun-3 hydropower project being developed by SJVN Limited of India.
