KATHMANDU: Kathmandu District Court has granted four-day police remand for Member of the House of Representatives and former home minister Bal Krishna Khand.

Police arrested Khand on Wednesday as part of an investigation into a racket that swindled tens of millions of rupees out of hundreds of people by promising to settle them in the US as Bhutanese refugees. After interrogating Khand for approximately five hours, the police took him to Kantipur Hospital for a medical examination before presenting him before the Kathmandu District Court for the remand.

Following Khand’s arrest, his wife Manju, who is also allegedly involved in the racket, has gone out of contact.
